Wheat Bran

Wheat bran is a by-product of the milling process of wheat. It usually contains 14–19% of total grain weight. Wheat bran is used as a source of dietary fiber for preventing colon diseases. It is a cheap and abundant source of dietary fiber.

It is an ingredient of great value in feed formulation because it contains 15 to 18 percent protein, 14 to 18 percent oil, and 30 to 40 percent digestible carbohydrates. Nondefatted bran works as a binder in low inclusion levels, while defatted wheat bran can be used at higher inclusion levels.

Wheat bran is produced during milling for white flour. Wheat bran is produced about 90 million tons per year for human consumption. It is a concentrated source of insoluble fiber which has been linked to improved bowel health and possible prevention of some diseases such as cancer.
